you cannot hold me captive
welcome to Survival of the Fittest
In the year 3096 humanity left earth forever, much of its history lost due to wars and disaster.
The only leftovers were seized by the last human government—
The Dimiran Empire, formed from the weatlhiest and most advanced conglomerates on the planet.
They quickly colonized seven new homeplanets, each one headed by a different company and humans began to prosper once again.
Now, in the year 5247 the empire thrives on nine planets, but within the last ten years a new form of "entertainment" has shown up within the empire.
Under the guise of scientific study, the government has gathered criminals, slaves, debtors, or contracted individuals to help study the ecosystems of foreign planets.
Those in the experiment are genetically altered to become humanoid monsters with traits similar to animals from earth.
They are then sent to varying planets where they must adapt to survive.
Their struggles are watched through constant livestreams for entertainment.
Unfortunately, you are one these experiments.
Sorry for this.
The premise for this roleplay is that you are a human from one of the nine homeplanets who, due to varying circumstances, are inducted into the experiment, becoming mutated and left to survive in an alien ecosystem. You go through growth spurts to gain adaptations, or improve/modify existing ones. You get to choose the planet you wish to land on, but the landing pods aren't stable so where you land on the planet will be random.

Tell the world I'll survive[break] Tell the world I'm alive [attr="class","quicklinks"]@resource [attr="class","quicklinks"]804 words Lets see how this goes ;D I'm hyped | [attr="class","technoscroll"] ❝ ‘Don’t be stupid, slave. I have one task and one task only: become stronger.’[break][break] Those words repeated themselves in the echo chamber of his dreaming mind, and Falkiev listened to them play again, recalling the last time he had seen the frail and pale girl. His reply had been at the tip of his tongue, in his emboldened position as no longer a slave, but a survivalist, with such words as 'master' holding little meaning in a game of life or death. But he had granted her this one last moment of having power over him, this one last vestige of the life she had given up and left behind, both to honor her, and to remind him. This is what he was working for. This was why he was here. [break][break] Still, he remembered crystal clear his thoughts. "You aren't the only one." He had always been the stronger of the two, and even after the changes of the gene therapy he was not going to let that change. If anything, he accepted the changes, painful as they were, as a chance to be more then he ever could have been. She may have seen them as a way to be more then her weak human body could have ever been. But he saw it as a way to be king of himself, untamable and uncatchable. He was enhanced now, and even in his slumber he felt all the changes that had been introduced to him, his nostrils flaring as he breathed steadily despite the jolting movement of his fall. [break][break] ‘don’t die before I find you,’[break][break] Falkiev didn't need her instructions though to know he would not. No, he would do whatever it took to survive. This was his life now, and unlike others, he would not cling to the memories of a life he had before, or pine with the memory of what it was like to be human and homesickness for a thing that no longer was an option to him. His reflection did not horrify him, it inspired him, and if this new skin still felt strange to him, it was something he looked forward to adapting to, to being able to hone and use to the fullest of its extents. The question was, would she be able to survive long enough to find him in the first place? She had intelligence, but was far too confident as well. [break][break] Until they crossed paths again though, if they ever did, it was not Falkiev's concern any longer. He crashed into the water with a tumultuous splash, his body instinctively stirring slightly to life, though it wasn't until the eventual melting and release of the shock gel did reptilian eyes flick open, green hues marked by needle thin slits, wide and alert, before his pupils adjusted and dilated. The gel had mostly melted already, from settling or from the water, and with precise small movements he clawed and shook more of it off to escape it's clutches, and slowly, carefully, Falkiev stepped out onto the surface of his new planet. His new home. Lithe strong feet stepped surely into water, sending a small splash up around him, and he felt the sinewy and lean new muscle of his things and legs strain and bend as he flicked his tail behind himself, the feathered tip swaying of the water. [break][break] Stretching out his neck, Falkiev shook his body, stretching out stiff feathers and limbs from the flight here, and then, cocking his head, looked around himself, raising the end of his snout to scent the air around himself as he let feathered arms drape, raising himself higher on his toes for a better vantage point. First thing was first, he needed to establish exactly where he was and what the landscape around him was like. Then, he needed to start acquiring resources, his gaze looking up to the sky to see what time it was. [break][break] The basic necessities for life were water, food, and shelter, and he needed to make sure he had all three before anything else. Water was the most important, and while his stomach rumbled quietly, the dryness of his throat warned him of the far more immediate need, eyeing the water at his feet and sniffing it to try to ascertain if it was salted or fresh. Three days, maybe less, before a human would die of dehydration, and if anything, he was best assuming his newer form had even less time then that. Then, a week without food, maybe more if he started to atrophy and his body ate at fat. He didn't have much to spare though. Finally shelter, which was wholly dependent on the climate, and other creatures, that lived around him, but presumably should be found, at least temporarily, by the nightfall. He couldn't waste any time. |

The shallow water had rippled from when Falkiev first landed and continuing on as he had been freed and began to move and investigate the area around him. The warm water's ripples seemed to continue on forever before being suddenly cut off by a blockade of rushing waves. In the sea he had landed he crashed into one of the freshwater spring pools that helped make up this shallow sea, near one the rapids and a shallow vent that pumped water despite only being 1ft. underwater. [break][break]
Each breath of the water would be clear of salt, but when he would sniff the air salt would not be empty from the air. Bordering the spring pool were four rapids that curved around one another like saltwater freeways in the shape of an oval around the pool before going off in their own destinations. The densities of the water likely kept them separate from one another, that and the velocity the saltwater rivers cut through it. [break][break]
While the warmth and quality of the water would be of value to him it was obvious that it was for others as well. Floating around the top of the waters were lily pads and other floating flowers that were a bit odd as their petals were covered in fuzz while their roots and leaves in the water stayed clear free of such floral hairs.[break][break]
Floating nearby was other forms of vegetation, mosses with roots that hung low into the water to create upside down forests in the water, and even odder there were a few floating rafts of bamboo that floated, knotted around the base in buoyant balls looped intricately. Farther off the water seemed to go deeper, in part of the part a little bit off there seemed to be a cave into an underwater cave, but there seemed to be no others nearby, so was it closed off or would it lead to others.[break][break]
It was the middle of the day and the sun seemed to be shining brightly through the clear water and even reflecting in flashes of the light waves caused by ripples. There was plenty to explore as while one of the rushing borders was nearby the spring he stood in seemed to go on for a few visible miles, being blockaded off by the rafts of dark bamboo.[break][break]
Suddenly something ran over his feet, though when he would turn to look he would see a dark creature that was hard to see despite the daylight, big enough to walk above the water that would suddenly go flat, disappearing into the water and swimming off to the deeper parts near the sunken underwater vents where the hotter water pumped from.[break][break]

I want you to know All is blacked out but continues to grow [attr="class","quicklinks"] Erbal [attr="class","quicklinks"]1606 words I have a feeling food is a lot harder then water here D: | [attr="class","technoscroll"] ❝ It seemed one of his needs would not be in any short supply for the current moment Falkiev thought, critically, as water rippled from around his angles, seeming to cover the land as far as his eye could see. It was not a flat featureless land of water though, and based off the fact that he stood in land, seemed to decidedly have solid land buried underneath at least part of it. There, choppy waves seemed to move of their own direction rather then merely agitation at his own, and drawing closer, though staying far enough back that a stronger wave could not pull him across in surprise, he noted the scent of salt was stronger in the air. Yet, it seemed, the water Falkiev stood in for the moment was fresh, to the capability of his senses anyways. Eyes narrowing as he lowered his head closer to the water, then raised it higher, standing further onto the balls of his feet, he finally spotted the reason for this oddity, or at least a small part of the reason, a small bubbling and rippling upward from a seam in the earth seeming to indicate it was some kind of natural spring or vent giving up heat and water from under the earth. It explained the warmth and cleanliness of the water then, and he guessed there were several more of these, either in this same area forming this spring, or spread out forming other springs. He wasn't sure on the particulars of such an event, but it seemed unlikely it was the only place here where it occurred entirely. The salt water seemed to be easily discernible, even by the eye, seeming to have been cut off into streams and rivers around the fresh water, separated perhaps by the different temperatures, though he wasn't quite sure. Really, Falkiev only cared that they were separated though, for it meant all the world to his survival. He had been fortunate, or perhaps had someone watching over him that decided to give him a favorable sending location, though given his former status, he highly doubted the latter. Not unless they had been sending his master here as well. If she had, she was no where close though. For her sake, hopefully she had found herself in similar conditions. Call it fate, or call it luck, but either way, so far his landing spot seemed highly favorable towards his survival. The shallow waters were not something he would have been fond of or chosen himself, preferring to have dry land underfoot, and he was not sure how well his new body swam, but he already had one thing more precious then any gem or jewel. Fresh water, and in large supply. It was warm, but it wasn't salted, and that was all that mattered. Lowering his head again, Falkiev let his clawtips brush through it before setting his hands in the water, bracing himself as he awkwardly crouched down low enough to lap up the life sustaining resource, seeking to sate his parched throat first and foremost before exploring more. He had no reason to over-fill himself, this resource seemed to be plentiful, but he needed enough at least to get his strength back and recover from the effects of his landing and sleep. Shaking out his head and neck, Falkiev's ruff of feathers swishing from side to side, he let his tail help him balance with a slow powerful swing as he straightened back onto his hind legs again and looked around the area more closely, padding slowly and carefully closer to the center of the spring, or at least further from the edge where the salt water rapids lurched. He wasn't surprised to note plant life thriving in this natural spring, it was a location of great importance if, as it seemed, most of the area outside of these springs was inhospitable ocean and salt water. Some plants and many animals could take in the salt, but it was a lot harder, if he understood it right, and the two didn't usually cross, so something that needed freshwater would likely be naturally clustered and thriving here. Broad leafen pads and flowers bobbing along the surface of the water seemed strange to the desert dweller, but the adaptions made sense in a watery environment perhaps. Falkiev gave them a cursory inspection, having only a minimal interest in things that had no appeal to his appetite, but knowing that understanding the whole of his environment was important. Closer, the floating pads seemed stiff and almost leathery, while the flowers seemed to have a fuzzy texture, though it seemed to be the only part of the plant to display this odd feature. He made a mental note later to taste a petal and a leaf of the plant, and perhaps a nip of the other plants here, in order to determine what might be safe or not. It would be hard to tell what would have a good effect, but he knew many plants often carried medicinal effects. A shame only that he remembered few of them, and even fewer would be able to be applied on a foreign land with unknown new plant life. Cocking his head, Falkiev eyed the other floating plants, noticing a spot of... moss perhaps, or algae, though he was unused to seeing either on it's own rather then growing over something else in pictures of the study texts. Roots clustered close together and with long trailing ends there, forming a network to suck nutrients out of the waters. If it was anything like the hotsprings he knew, this place was likely also high in those as well. There was also much thicker plants, knotted balls of tough and fibrous looking stuff, as he gently batted one that floated close away gently. The orbs of stuff seemed to line the edges of the spring as well, almost like a visible barrier to where the choppier salt waters ran, but judging off of that alone, this was no small spring, and he had room to move about without having to worry about crossing the other water, or if there was more springs. Details were being noted though, and Falkiev was noticing one observation that wasn't coming to him yet. Animal life. He didn't need guidance to realize his desires had shifted more to meat then they had before. Presumably, if this land was mostly water, there might be fish then, or water bound creatures. Land above the water seemed precious and scarce, so whatever lived here must either be big enough to live atop it, light enough to float, or already built to live within the water itself. Food was his next priority, but judging off the sun, seemingly squarely in the middle of it's daily path, he had time to puzzle it out, and could go into tomorrow and the day after if needed. The sooner, the better, but rushing into the unknown would do him worse then having patience. He had his most immediate need covered, and needed to make sure was secure as he approached the other two. Starting to move through the shallowed water again, Falkiev balked again as he noticed a slope downward, backing up a pace to examine. The water went deeper, or rather, the land seemed to be dug away here. Peering through the water carefully, he thought he discerned a hole in the land, a cave. It was hard to tell if it was natural, or dug out by another creature though, and it seemed auspiciously alone as he looked around for similar features. Either the others were hard to see, which was very possible, or this was a lone cave, making it either a tunnel or connection to others, or a den. Letting the thought sit, Falkiev considered it. If it was a den, it could mean prey, but it could also mean predator. If it was a system or a tunnel, it could mean access to other areas. The only problem was, no matter which it was, it was underwater. He was physically active, and knew in his past form at least he could hold his breath and swim passing well, though he rarely had done so, but even assuming his new form could do the same or even better, he still was not an aquatic creature. Going too deep, getting stuck, or being attacked or met with mishap would all spell his demise far too easily if he went down there unprepared. Before Falkiev could decide to try to scout it farther or avoid it entirely for the moment, something brushed by his feet, moving over claws and scales swiftly. Instantly he was alert, moving quickly to try to stomp it down and pin it under his claws. It was large enough to lift above the water, but in an instant it had flattened itself under the water, before he could get a proper look at it, and started moving towards the hot water vent he had noted earlier. Swift powerful steps immediately gave chase, and he ran after it through the shallow water, though he would hesitate it the water came to the bottom of his thighs, considering the deeper water warily. If it was indeed that deep, he would pause a moment before crouching further into the water to let his arms lie atop it, stiff 'wing' feathers dipping just under the surface as he listened and watched carefully, trying to sense whatever he could, though the movement of the water itself would likely make it difficult to spot or feel other creatures moving. |

Hydrating himself was important and while he would definitely feel some relief as he continued to drink water it would be obvious that he would still need to drink more later, but for now at least one need could be out of worry.[break][break]
It wasn't surprising that Falkiev had chosen to pursue the creature that had accidentally stepped on him maybe that's why the creature had become hasty when it flattened and swam away. The waters it had retreated to were still shallow luckily for the raptor. Looking from atop it would be clear that there was a fissure in the ground where bubbles where pouring out pushing more warm water rich with minerals from the earth into the shallow sea. [break][break]
The water had obviously gotten warmer as he got closer to the vents, the water pumping out from deep within the rock heated until it reaches the surface and meats the cold air within moments. It was likely due to the expanse of the warm water and the multitude of vents that the air around them was a chilly bit a bit more agreeable than if you were to stand in the colder salt rivers that ran through violently. There were no plants floating around the bubbles and the water seemed almost barren except for what looked like pulsing, apple-sized things hugged against the rock around the vent the bubbles even rolling over them from proximity. There was some fish that even seemed to nibble along the edges of them before disappearing in the bubbles leaving little to be seen unless it was investigated further.[break][break]
When he went to observe the water around him and try to find whatever was nearby he would feel the pressure soon enough. It was a bit much at first from the motion of the bubbles and the tiny fishes that are hidden near the vents, but he soon felt the movement of something bigger nearby. [break][break] Suddenly in an influx of vibration Falkiev would most likely see as the creature had stood up from where it was hiding. It was dark and furred it was smaller than Falkiev but in general, it was at least half his weight. It seemed a bit odd that such a creature had gotten away from him quickly its pointed ears flicking around. The solid black nature of the creature made it hard to notice his features even with the pale background behind it. It didn't react but rather stared at him as if he was waiting for him to move or give some sort of reaction.

I need you to see Nothing can change unless you believe [attr="class","quicklinks"] Erbal [attr="class","quicklinks"]1220 words Who is this little guy o.O | [attr="class","technoscroll"] ❝ The taste of clean sweet water, if warmer perhaps then Falkiev might have favored, was a blissful relief. That was perhaps another edge he had on many of the other survivors. Falkiev was sure he was far from the bulkiest, not with those that he had seen in some of the other families and the likes of his masters siblings. But he wasn't as weak as she had been either, and unlike many of them, he was used to hardship and taking less. Servants servings and scraps had sustained him for many years, and he didn't have any illusions or bad habits of living any sort of carefree or even 'good' life that he imagined many of the others here had. Those who were not convicts of course. Over those, he could only rely on his wits and strategy. They were the ones he had to watch out for. Ultimately, while he didn't dare underestimate anyone, he did not fear his master or those like her, those of wealth or preparation, those who went into the game thinking it was only that, a game. Or who challenged it out of some feeling or pride or desire to prove themselves. Falkiev had nothing to prove but his own freedom and strength. No sponsor was likely to be looking after this unremarkable slave. He was on his own, and had to make his own way. He didn't doubt that the rules of the game could be bent or interfered with for those with money and supporters, but he didn't need and wouldn't try to pretend such a thing would happen for him. No he could and would survive, would learn to thrive, on his own. Already Falkiev was making good progress, but it was far too early to get comfortable or start counting victories. His thirst was sated for the moment, though he was far from completely satisfied. It was enough to take it from the forefront of his mind and worries though, and more importantly, he knew now it was a reliable resource that was seemingly in no short supply here at least. In over abundance if anything... though it led to a sense of ill ease at the prospect of his other two needs. Surely other life lived here, but would he be able to catch it? He was not built for the water, and while he seemed adept at running if he had to guess, he wasn't sure if he was much of a swimmer. He'd have to come up with some interesting strategies if he wanted to be able to make it by as a land dweller in a water terrain. Falkiev's tail twitched slightly, swinging from side to side slowly. Shelter too might be a problem. The water might be shallow enough to sleep on top of, but he would be exposed to any other predator... it might have to be a risk he took though. Certainly there seemed to be caves, whether they were natural shelters or signs of another large creature he couldn't tell just yet, but the under-water location made it largely inaccessible, or at least highly dangerous, for him. The location permanently kept one of his needs sated, but a second glance was finding doubts. He's have to get a better feel for it to know where he truly stood. But Falkiev turned to instinct in a flash and let his worries and thoughts settle for the moment at the back of his mind. The creature was quick to realize it's mistake and bolt, but it didn't head into deeper waters thankfully, seeming to head towards the vents instead where the water grew steadily warmer around his ankles, a crack in the earth seeming to let heat seep from under rock and earth into the water. He wasn't familiar with this type of terrain, but if he had to guess, this was why and how the water could be so fresh and temperate, was a constant flow of fresh hot water to keep it clean of the salt. Oddly the air felt colder despite the water feeling warmer then even, and he shook his head slightly in confusion, the air chilling his sensitive facial scales. It was strange to note the plants did not seem to be growing around here despite this being the source of the clean water, though there seemed to be another sort of thing growing along the rocks of the vent, and Falkiev was glad to note fish seemed to be attracted here. So maybe he did have a hunting ground... if the fish were big enough and numerous enough to sate him at least. Though catching them might be a challenge as they flickered in and out of his sharp sight rapidly. He was large and clumsy in the water, and would have to rely on speed and cunning rather then pretend he could beat them in a contest of agility. But he had some tools to his advantage at least... Dipping his feathers into the water, Falkiev concentrated, trying to see if he could notice the dark creature that had ran over his foot just a moment earlier, or detect what else was here. He had to close his eyes a moment, a grimace crossing his features as the rippling of the vents and hot water rushing through hit him. There was a lot of water movement here, and whatever was in the water made it bubble like mad as well. After a moment of adjusting though, he was able to adjust to it enough to pick out the inconsistent details. The small vibrations moving around the vents, likely the fish. Then.... there, something else. Emerald eyes opened again, narrowed, and focused in the location, just a new wave of vibrations tingled up his arm, the creature he had chased here and been tracking standing up suddenly. It didn't run though, or attack immediately, and Falkiev took the moment to observe it instead, trying to analyze it and decide if it was something worth attacking for food or not. Raising his hands close to himself again to let the hum of the water against his feathers fade and removing the quills from the vibrations of the water, he cocked his head slightly to the side, taking in the creature before him. It had pointed ears, and was surprisingly a lot bigger then it had seemed, though still far smaller then he was. A dark body was furred and helped disguise it and make it hard to pick out, but now it seemed to have ditched hiding and swimming to watch him. Why? Nostrils twitching, Falkiev clicked at it quietly, a curious and cautious greeting, and very slowly, shifting his weight to lean forward and extend his neck, sniffing at it. It seemed to be studying him as well. Merely observing, or waiting for a certain action or response? If it feared him it was surprising it didn't try to flee or use the vents to hide. Certainly he didn't think he was in danger of it hunting him... but perhaps he could learn something from this creature, or find a neutral creature here. Worst came to worst, it seemed to be faster then him, but he might be able to catch it by surprise with his claws... |

His chirp echoed through the air for a moment and there was nothing said or done with everything around them seeming to pause for just a second. It was subtle and it would happen rather quickly but the creature's ears would flatten out sideways and its eyes dilated slightly as it opened its own maw revealing a set of hooked fangs as it let out a mellow, vibrating noise at him "Raooowww."[break][break]
It seemed like it wasn't wary of him and it even decided to respond, it lifted both of its front arms into the air a tad revealing that it had paws. Though it wouldn't let him have too long to stare at his appendages as they were suddenly brought down with what seemed like all of the creature's force.[break][break]
While it was surprising it would be of no harm as he brought them down onto one of the pulsing things among the rocks. The greyish eclair looking organism let out what sounded like a loud hiss before from what one could only assume was the front expelled out a large mass of salmon colored goop which was likely its insides. While it expelled this the tail of the creature would curl from pressing against its own back a long thin tail hooking in the air as it flattened onto all fours, grinding its thick hammer like paws against the seemingly elastic flesh to tease out more of the goop.[break][break]
Before doing anything else it chose to look back up at Falkiev his eyes locking with his for a moment going to diamonds before reverting back to their dilated state. The focus it held was suddenly broken as it let out a similar noise than before but this time a bit deeper before burying its maw into the flesh below making a loud chewing and slurping noise when it had seemingly chosen to forgo conversation for eating, why would he do so? [break][break]
Though there was plenty to ponder like what exactly this creature was, why it had led him over here, and why it had responded before dining in on something that seemed eerily close to a sea cumber mixed with a thick ballooned outside. The entire time a twitching and swaying line of the creature's tail danced along with the delicate breeze.
